The purpose of the Transition Team is:
• To help the congregation acknowledge and celebrate the ministry carried out by the congregation during the tenure of the departing pastor.
• To provide opportunities for the congregation to ask questions about the transition time and to gather their insights through the process.
• To provide an open forum for the sharing and focusing of hopes and aspirations for the future.
• To help the congregation move from preoccupation with the past to a state of readiness for a new chapter in its life under the leadership of a new pastor.
This journey is a transition process that can’t be rushed. We will take time to explore God’s call, explore our beliefs, and open new doors to the future. We will take time to celebrate our past, and to explore and define a new identity that will be separate from Pastor Steve. Together we will prepare to welcome a new pastor. As scary as that may sound to us, this transition is a time for us to move forward in ministry. Ministry here is a gift from God, stronger because Pastor Steve contributed to its strength.
What the Transition Team is Not:
The Transition Team is not responsible for the day to day ministry and operational decisions of the church. The Team is not the Call Committee and does not do the work of the Congregation Council. The Team merely aids the congregation by facilitating the tasks that allow us to prepare to welcome our new pastor. As a congregation, we trust the work of the Holy Spirit in this transition to make a great beginning for a new senior pastor.
