Family Sunday School
On the first Sunday of each month, beginning on Oct. 4, families are invited to learn and share in your faith together. Family Sunday School is from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. in the church basement. Preschool through sixth grade students are asked to bring a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, older sibling, or other adult significant to them to Family Sunday School.
Knowing our kids learn more from what we do than from what we say, a parent is most likely to influence a child’s faith. “Faith is caught more than it is taught,” author and pastor, David Anderson has said.
One of our visions for ministry at St. John is “Forming Faith in Families.” Family Sunday School is a way to equip you, as a parent, to be actively involved in the formation of your child’s faith, learning the tools to help you talk about faith together.
This fall, Family Sunday School will revolve around something called The Faith 5, developed by Pastor Rich Melheim. Families will learn about The Faith 5 and how to incorporate it into your daily life. The Faith 5 encourages families to do these five things together each day:
1. SHARE highs and lows of the day.
2. READ and highlight a verse of Scripture in your Bible.
3. TALK about how the verse relates to you highs and lows.
4. PRAY for your highs and lows, for your family, and for the world.
5. BLESS one another.
