NEW HYMN: Today we’ll begin learning hymn #508, As Rain from the Clouds. The text was written by Sister Delores Dufner. She is the liturgy director for St. Benedict Monastery in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
BAPTIZED SUNDAY IS Rubee Mae Habiger, daughter of Dante’ & Candee Habiger. Her sponsors are Tasha Habiger and Robert Habiger.
WE LISTEN TO THE WORD: Pentecost Sunday marks the occasion of the Spirit’s arrival to empower the church. Pentecost was a Jewish harvest festival that marked the fiftieth day after Passover and centered on the Pentateuch - the first five books of the Bible. Luke portrays the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 being poured out upon the disciples and turning them into preachers who told their stories of Jesus Christ. We pray that the same Spirit is poured upon you this day so that you, too, might tell your story of Jesus Christ.
FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR are in honor of Evelyn Hermann on Mother’s Day from her daughters and their families.
WELCOME TO WORSHIP: All the baptized are invited to the Lord’s Table. You may stand or kneel to receive the elements. We ask children who commune to extend their hands to receive the elements. Children who do not yet commune should have hands folded to receive a blessing from the pastors. You may ask a server to provide a gluten-free wafer or grape juice if needed.
PUPPET TROUPE: Thank you to the eighth grade students and Puppet Troupe Leaders for your performance this morning and on Thursday, May 15. The Puppet Troupe has been performing throughout the year for Family Sunday School and the preschool through third grade Sunday School classes.

The nursery, located in the Commons Area, is staffed Sundays from 9:15 to 11:30 a.m. for infants and children up to age four . . . HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all those who celebrate the day when we give thanks for the love shared by mothers with their families.
THE CONTRIBUTIONS you share with the ministry of St. John Lutheran Church continue to be strong and generous this year. General giving has increased by 8% and benevolence giving by 13% over 2007. Note the following information about giving from January through April. Giving is ahead of what was anticipated to be received through April 2008, which is typical for the first four months of the year. Giving tends to slow during the summer, and by August is closer to the 2008 anticipated receipts.
NEW BIBLE CAMP: There’s an information sheet on the entry tables with the schedule for the dedication of the new Bible Camp to be held on Saturday morning, May 31. The page also has information about registering for the camp’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Bully Pulpit Golf Course in Medora on Sunday, June 8.
THE SUMMER WORSHIP SCHEDULE begins on Sunday, May 25 with worship services at 8:00 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday services at 7:00 p.m. continue all year.
SENIOR HIGH RETREAT: Due to crazy schedules, we will not have our retreat May 16-17. Keep an eye out for new dates.
PRAYER CALENDAR: Pick up a May prayer calendar from one of the entry tables. Thank you to Program Secretary Jodeen Myers who compiles the prayer requests.
NEXT SUNDAY is Holy Trinity Sunday. It’s the only festival Sunday named for a doctrine rather than for an event. The word Trinity is not found in the Bible, but is the basis for the creed we confess each week.
BIKE RACKS are available near the handicapped entrance and in the east parking lot for those who bike to church.
