FOURTH SUNDAY IN LENT
MARCH 2, 2008
10:30 a.m. Sunday

CONFESSION OF SINS

P In the name of the Father, and of the (+) Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

P If you, Lord, should mark our sins, who could stand?
A But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be honored

P Let us confess our sins. God of our salvation:
A We confess that we live in opposition to your gracious will for us. We have failed to be a blessing to others by turning our backs on those in need. By our sins, we are cast out from your presence; our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. Breathe your Spirit on us, O God, that we may live.

P In the name and for the sake of Christ, I say to you: All your sins are forgiven. In the waters of baptism you were joined with Christ, reborn as children of God and anointed with the Holy Spirit. You are free to live as God’s people in the world.
A Amen

THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen

(Sit) DISTRIBUTION & COMMUNION SONGS

As Bread that is Broken
Verse 1: Many hearts are hungry tonight,
Many trapped in darkness yearn for the light;
So many who are far from home and many who are lost,
O, Lord, your wounded children need the power of your cross.

Chorus: As bread that is broken, use our lives,
As wine that is poured out, a willing sacrifice;
Empower us, Father, to share the love of Christ,
As bread that is broken, Lord, use our lives.

Verse 2: Help us to begin where we are, help us love the people near to our hearts; Then give our faith a mission field wherever you may call, Lord, love your world through each of us,
Until we’ve touched them all. (Repeat chorus)

The Wonderful Cross
Verse 1: When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Verse 2: See from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down;
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Chorus: O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross
Bids me come and die and find that I may truly live.
O the wonderful cross, O the wonderful cross;
All who gather here by grace draw near and bless your name.

Verse 3: Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were an off’ring far too small.
Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all. (Repeat chorus 1½ times)

You Chose the Cross (Lost in Wonder)
Verse 1 You chose the cross with every breath.
The perfect life, the perfect death, you chose the cross.
A crown of thorns you wore for us;
And crowned us with eternal life, you chose the cross.
And though your soul was overwhelmed with pain
Obedient to death, you overcame.

Chorus I'm lost in wonder, I'm lost in love.
I'm lost in praise for evermore.
Because of Jesus' unfailing love, I am forgiven, I am restored.

Verse 2: You loosed the chords of sinfulness and broke the chains of my
disgrace. You chose the cross, up from the grave victorious.
You rose again so glorious, you chose the cross.
The sorrow that surrounded you was mine.
“Yet not my will, but yours be done,” you cried.
(Repeat chorus three times)

RAISING FUNDS FOR A NEW GARAGE: This summer, we are hoping to construct a new garage and shop that replace the existing garage that is almost 40 years old. The new garage is needed to provide better security for the yard equipment, and additional storage space is needed to the equipment. To fund the $20,000 project, we already have $12,000 in a dedicated account for capital improvements to the church property. Our goal is to raise another $8,000 by April 30. You’ll be receiving an offering envelope for contributions to the garage fund in early March.
