NEW HYMN: The Sending Song is Send Me, Lord (#809). It’s a new South African hymn that we are learning.

WELCOME TO THE LORD’S TABLE: As Jesus freely welcomed sinners, so we welcome all to the Lord’s Table, regardless of age or other human division. Holy Communion at St. John Lutheran Church is open to all who are aware of their own brokenness, since we believe that “nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God” (Rom. 8:39). You may stand or kneel to receive the elements. Children who do not yet commune should have hands folded to receive a blessing from the pastors. You may ask a server to provide a gluten-free (rice) wafer or grape juice if needed.

WORSHIP INFORMATION: Attendance last week was 370 . . . Transmitters are available for the hearing impaired. Ask an usher for help . . . If it is uncomfortable for you to stand during the service, please feel free to remain seated . . . The nursery, located in the Commons Area, is not staffed during the summer, but may be used for infants and children when an adult is present . . . Children’s bags are available during worship in the Commons Area and in the church entry . . .

THE SECOND READING from Romans 6 is used by Martin Luther in his Small Catechism article as the basis for the watery death we die in baptism. Luther asks, “What is the significance of baptism with water?” He replies by saying, “It signifies that the old person in us with all sins and evil desires is to be drowned through daily sorrow for sin and repentance, and that daily a new person is to come forth and rise up to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.”
