WE LISTEN TO THE WORD: Sometimes we in the church get bogged down in bickering with one another. Paul writes to the Corinthian church (second reading) to remind them that the Christian message has its focus on unity. The Corinthian church had factions based on social standing and wealth. St. Paul said that it is the cross of Christ, preached to the church, that brings us together in our common state as sinners in need of Christ’s gift of salvation.
2007 OFFERING STATEMENTS have been mailed out. Please contact Sonnie Otto, Finance & Stewardship Sec. if you have any questions regarding your giving statement. Thank you for your many generous gifts to the congregation.
COFFEE is served following the 8:00 a.m. service in the Fellowship Room.
SUNDAY SCHOOL DIRECTOR: We are currently seeking applications for the paid position of a Sunday School Director. This person would set up and order Sunday School supplies, be present on Sunday during the education hour, and organize Vacation Bible School. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Lisa at 225-6747, or lewton@stjohnelc.org. Applications and job descriptions are available in the church office.
CHURCH PHOTOS SOUGHT: In anticipation of a new church directory, we are seeking photos (digital media, slides, or prints) of church activities, ceremonies and programs. Bring them to the church office and include a note describing the activities, the date the photos were taken, and names of the people in the photos. Also let us know if you want the photos returned.

TWO ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES
At 12:10 and 7:00 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, February 6, we will begin the Lenten Season with worship, the imposition of ashes, and holy communion. The two services are identical. Confirmation students and parents must attend this worship service as part of the confirmation program.
W-ELCA INFORMATION: The General meeting in February is canceled due to a scheduling conflict. There will be a general meeting in May. The Cluster Spring Gathering will be in New England on April 12.
AN ASH WEDNESDAY SOUP SUPPER will be served by Circle 6 in the church basement on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Proceeds will go towards Sewing & Health Kits for Lutheran World Relief.
THURSDAY MIDWEEK LENTEN WORSHIP: The preaching topic for the 7:00 p.m. Thursday Midweek Lenten services is Life’s Transitions. Just as the Lenten season is a transition time from contrition and confession to forgiveness and celebration, so our lives are times of transition and change. Hear St. John members reflect on transitions in work, retirement, family life, leaving home, moving, and changing jobs. Sunday morning sermons from the pastors will also focus on Life’s Transitions based on the Lenten Bible texts.
LENTEN SUPPERS: Beginning Thursday, Feb. 14, supper will be provided by the senior high youth group from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. before each of the Thursday night Lenten services. The menus of these meals change each night. Free will donations will go toward next summer’s mission trip to Belize.
BELIZE MISSION TRIP: The phrase “mission trip” typically brings an image of a far off land. However, true mission work can happen anywhere. This year, our mission trip youth and adults will be participating in three service events in the Dickinson area before we leave for Belize. This is to remind us that while we are going to another country to live out our faith, we need to do it in our own homes, communities and relationships as well.
