VOLUNTEERS AT ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH PLAY AN IMPORTANT “ROLL!”
National Volunteer Week, April 27 - May 3
Volunteering allows you to minister to others by sharing what has so generously been given to you. Volunteering also provides opportunities to build relationships with others. We at St. John Lutheran Church are thankful for the dedication of each and every volunteer. The care you show for others through your volunteer ministry is like a light, shining in the darkness!
Whether God has blessed you with 40 hours a week of discretionary time, or whether you can barely snatch 40 minutes from your overloaded schedule, you play an invaluable “ROLL”here at St. John. You have the potential to make a difference in this corner of the world and in the ministry of our congregation. Thank you for your efforts and helpful ways!
NEW HYMN: We’re learning hymn #798, Will You Come and Follow Me. The composer is John L. Bell, a minister in the Church of Scotland, who composes hymns and worship songs. He set this hymn to a Scottish traditional tune. The words reflect the calling, or summoning, of disciples by Jesus.
JOIN THE ST. JOHN STAFF AT BIBLE CAMP: Members of the church staff are volunteering at the Bible Camp during their moving activities. If you want to join the staff, we’ll be at the camp Tuesday morning, Apr. 29, helping to clean and pack equipment in the lodge.
NEW ADULT CLASS TOPIC: The 9:15 a.m. May adult class, meeting in the main floor Fellowship Room, will focus on the ELCA’s Draft Social Statement on Human Sexuality. The statement will be presented to the ELCA National Assembly in August 2009. We’ll read through and discuss portions of the 40 page document for three Sundays, beginning Sunday, May 4.
FAMILY SUNDAY SCHOOL is next Sunday, May 4, at 9:15 a.m. in the church basement. Sunday School families are invited to learn a Bible story through music, activities and a family journal.
BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES to St. John member Ed Kouba who was 97 years old last Monday. Ed lives at St. Luke’s Home.
